The Purim Story

Each unique character and scene presents familiar popular tunes accompanied by lots of laughter and the Purim Players Band. You’ve never seen the familiar characters of Achashverosh or Mordechai or Esther or Haman like this!

Basics of the story: King Achashverosh is married to Queen Vashti. She ends up getting banished (or killed depending on which version you read) from the kingdom, leaving Achashverosh in search of a new Queen.

The King’s #1 advisor is a guy named Haman. He wears a 3-corner hat and makes evil plans in an attempt to be the guy in charge.

King and Haman advertise try-outs for a new Queen. A young Jewish woman, Esther, learns about the try-outs from her uncle/brother/relative, Mordechai. As luck would have it, Esther wins and becomes the new Queen.

In the meantime, Mordechai overhears 2 dudes making a plan to get rid of Achashverosh. Mordechai gets word to the King that his life is in danger.

King makes plans to honor Mordechai. Mordechai and Haman have an animated difference in political opinions; Haman decides Mordechai needs to be booted. So, Haman manipulates the King into killing off all the Jews. (Haman doesn’t know that Esther is Jewish, apparently.)

Mordechai enlists Esther to go to the King and beg for mercy for the Jews. Through some executive order magic, the Jews are saved – all thanks to Esther.

Now, imagine this story infused with Broadway show tunes and incredibly witty repartee and you have a slight taste of the Shpiels that PPPP presents every year.
